Get Involved with AFE Foundation
An event had happened, upon which it is difficult to speak, and impossible to be silent.
-Edmund Burke, 1789

Many events begin as a way to honor a loved one who has suffered a fatal or near-fatal episode of AFE. Oftentimes the physical act of doing something can be incredibly healing for family, friends and coworkers that are grieving their loss. We hope that you will be inspired by some of the events highlighted on this site and encourage you to get involved at any level you are able.
For Survivors of AFE:
Surviving an AFE is a traumatic and life changing event. By sharing your unique AFE experience, it will allow others to not feel isolated and alone. Share your story.
For those who have lost a loved one to AFE:
We recognize losing a loved one to AFE is devastating. Help further their legacy and voice by sharing their story. Our greatest desire is to help others recognize they are not alone in their journey towards healing after the loss of a loved one. Tell us their story.
It is estimated that 13.3 women per every 100,000 births pass away due to pregnancy related complications with AFE being the 2nd leading cause of maternal death in the United States. Despite the fact that we spend more money than any other nation on pregnancy and childbirth, the United States has no uniform reporting requirements for maternal death. The UK has seen significant results from their standardized reporting system, known as UK Obstetric Surveillance System (UKOSS). In fact, only 6 states require reporting maternal death and only 21 have maternal mortality review boards. This fractured system significantly affects our ability to determine true incidence rates of AFE related deaths. Please consider signing the Petition for the Mandatory Reporting of Maternal Deaths.
